Friends Projects

The Friends work closely with Medina’s City Cemetery Commission to implement the Spring Grove Master Plan (1997). Significant projects have been accomplished by the Friends with the help of the City of Medina, Foundations, Ed Mears’ Estate and others. These include:


  • Restoration of the 1884 Spring Grove Chapel

  • Construction of the Amos Mears Memorial office complex & parking lots

  • Construction of hard-edged lake and refurbishment of old lake

  • Construction of columbarium wall

  • Creation of Pat Mears Memorial Garden

  • Mausoleum stained glass windows restoration

  • Mausoleum bronze doors restoration

  • Mausoleum stone restoration

  • Mausoleum electric service

  • Creation & installation of back-lit stained glass for chapel

  • 199 gravestones restored at Old Town Graveyard

  • Improvements to the Baby Section and Cremains Section

  • Roadway Improvements

  • Land Improvements

  • Cemetery Advocate Funding

  • Entry gateway refurbishment

  • Soldiers’ Mound perennial garden construction

  • Chapel garden in memory of Art Riedel

  • Yearly tree planting, pruning, fertilization and maintenance

Through the advocacy of the Friends of the Cemetery, Spring Grove Cemetery was listed on the Register of National Historic Places in 2006.
